About your hips

Your hip is a ball and socket joint; one of the largest joints in the human body, it bears the strain of supporting the upper body during movements. Over time it can be damaged by arthritis or sustain an injury, causing pain.

Eventually there comes a point when a hip replacement operation is the only way to rid yourself of this pain.

Around 80 per cent or more of cemented hip replacements should last for 20 years; some others types may last longer.
